It’s not often that many find life after death. But through the loss of his wife, Carl Mathis found the inspiration and the dedication to not only raise two successful sons, but to turn his turmoil into triumph for himself and those around him. While waiting on someone to come to his rescue—of hurt, depression and pain—he realized that the only person who could rescue him… was himself.
Life Is What You Make It is a heart-wrenching story of one man’s journey to glue his life back together after it had been broken into a thousand pieces. At a time when Mathis could have made excuses for his struggles and shortcomings, he chose to use them as stepping stones to get back on the mountaintop. This book will bring your personal fears and failures to the forefront, make you accept responsibility, and condition your mind to make the right decisions moving forward. In this life, you define the norm! Let the next chapter of your life be one of purpose, prosperity and fulfillment. Your life is what you make it, so create your own definition!

Leave the bad memories behind
We really don’t know the extent of the damage that could cause from trying to keep what not good for your well been, it could reach where it can cause serious health problem for you body. The body functions are very delicate and work according to the feeling that is generated from how the mind thinks.
We go through different experiences in our lives, some are positive, and some we see as negative and unpleasant. When we hang on to a negative or unpleasant experience, we are constantly thinking about it. And when we constantly think about that negative event we prevent our selves from healing.
How many pleasant memories do you recall everyday? Chances are, like most people, you have a number of unpleasant experiences that you holding on to, which are preventing you from moving forward.
The more we carry the past the worse life gets. Why? Because we filled our mind up with negative experiences, because we continually hang on to something that doesn’t allow us to move forward, in short, we carry useless baggage that’s really slowing us down.

How to defeat life struggles and move forward
By Gary Alan Ruse (CUTLER BAY NEWSPAPER)
CARL MATHIS
Cutler Bay resident Carl Mathis, a minister and elder at Holy Ghost Tabernacle Ministries in Goulds, brought out his first book in March of last year after overcoming a personal tragedy. That book was Life Is What You Make It: Build a Better Life for You and Your Family.
“When I lost my wife in December of 2005, my life took a dramatic turn for the worse,” Mathis said. “Trying to raise three boys while grieving was not an easy task, so in a sense, I could sympathize with someone who may need to know that if I could tread the path of difficulty and come out victorious, they could also.”
His new book, Life Is What You Make It: Seven Steps to Moving Forward, will be published on Aug. 17 by Tate Publishing. The 104-page paperback will be available through Amazon.com and other booksellers.
“As I look around I see so many people who have lost a loved one or somebody who is close to them, and they are having such a difficult time coping with the separation that I felt compelled to share my story in an attempt to help someone else to overcome and move forward as I did.”
Although drawn from the challenges of his personal sorrow and fears, Mathis’s debut volume was primarily an inspirational book telling people not to give up on their dreams. The new book deals more with the grief process and how to survive it and prevail.
“My first book was generally geared to motivate anyone who needs encouragement and motivation in such a time as this,” Mathis said. “However, although everyone could benefit from reading this new book, the primary theme is to share how I was able to lift the burden and stressful thoughts and move on with my life. I am hoping that my story and how I did it could help
Someone in a similar situation.”
Mathis also writes feature stories for his church’s monthly newsletter, The Royal Chronicle; teaches bible classes, and spends time volunteering with Shepherd’s Care, an outreach program designed to help those in need and the homeless. Mathis also is furthering his theological studies through the National Alliance of Progressive Churches.
The book’s publisher describes Life Is What You Make It as a book that “will teach you how to overcome any crippling situation you find yourself in and stimulate personal and spiritual growth by accepting the situation, taking responsibility, conditioning your mind, choosing to make right decisions, building a team, believing, and defining the new normal.”
When you purchase the book you also get a free audio download of the book.
For more information about the book, visit Mathis’ website at http://www.carlmathis.com or www.Amazon.com.

BOOK REVIEW by Anita Finley
BOOK REVIEW: LIFE is What You Make It...
seven steps to moving forward
Author: Carl Mathis — Reviewed by Anita Finley
Carl Mathis writes about the dramatic change he experienced when suddenly his wife died. He said that he waited a long time hoping someone would come to his assistance but that didn’t really happen. And it was at that defining moment that he found out that life is what you make it, and that another cannot make your life for you. There is so much motivation on the pages of this small, but powerful book, that it requires re-reading to absorb the excellent messages. One of his chapters, “Accept the Situation” probably affects each and ever y one of us at some time of our life. Mathis continually reassures us that we have the ability to achieve anything we want or need. One should ask if hanging on to negative past events makes everyone feel better or worse?
We all know the answer, it’s just how to accomplish being positive and not letting the negativity that surrounds us interfere. To prove Mathis’ point, throughout the chapters, there are biblical references that match what the paragraphs have inferred. It’s all put together very nicely. Taking responsibility for who you are and what you do is probably the most important task of your being. Because the author is a minister, it is easy to understand why so much sounds like listening to a Sunday morning sermon. In our time where technology keeps us unfocused, between cell phones, I-phones, Blackberries, computers, Blue Ray Video, TV, and ever so much more” noise,” the author says that in order to make the right decisions, one must stay focused. “If you ever want to make your dreams come true, you need focus to play a big role in your life. Don’t give up and fall short t of your goal!” He also discusses how time is so valuable and it is important to use it wisely. We all know that but how do we stay focused to do that? Stay focused!
After reading Mathis’ book, I felt that his chapter, “Condition Your Mind,” says it all. It begins with “the mind is the seat of perception, self-consciousness, thinking, believing, remembering, hoping, desiring, wiling, judging, analyzing, evaluating, and reasoning. To accomplish success requires that you change your mind— get away from selfish and negative thinking, which are par t of human nature.” This is an excellent book to read if you need motivation for anything: weight loss, smoking, any addictions, but as a general “good feeling” book. There are so many excellent messages throughout the chapters. And the best par t, it is such easy and fast reading! About the author: Carl Mathis is a minister who devotes his life with a passion for helping all people who are in need of help. He is also the single parent of three boys.
Carl hopes that LIFE is What You Make It will be an encouragement for all people who have experienced any type of situation similar to his own. He strongly believes that nothing is impossible to achieve once you put your mind to it. His dedication of his book is to his wife, Dale Averill Delaney Mathis, “who died before I could get an opportunity to put pen to paper” and to his three sons: Jaron, Carl Jr. and Torrey.

YOU HAVE THE POWER
The greatest power you could ever acquire is the power to do what you want to, in the Bible its call free will. This incredible power lies inside of you. What happened is, God allows you to make any decision you want concerning you life. But you must understand that there will be consequence you will face. This consequence is control not by anyone else but you, not even God will intervene; He gives you the right away to do what you want to do. However, remember the result of your decision was you own doing, making the right decision keeps you from ever having to come to the conclusion of accepting the situation that you put yourself into.
To avoid such action in your life is to know your purpose.

Do not let any unfortunate situation be your down fall for life.
For to lone, many have repeatedly asking themselves these question, how did I allow this situation to enter my secret circle of life? There was a time when I could recognize and deal with a situation before it occur, but this one sneaked in under my reader right before my very eyes, now I am faced with having to deal with this situation, however, there is a solution.
Something about life that sometime seams to confused the human mind about how it operates. We find ourselves sometimes doing things we know will lead into something not so good for our life. However, the interesting issue is that our brain in limited. Why?
Study shows that only part of your memory surface can be activated at any one time.
“This limited attention span is extremely important for it means that the activated area will be a single coherent area and that single coherent area will be found in the most easily activated part of the memory surface. The most easily activated area or pattern is the most familiar one, the one which has been encountered most often, the one which has left most trace on the memory surface. And because a familiar pattern tends to be used it becomes ever more familiar. In this way the mind builds up that stock of present patterns which are the basis of code communication.
Whatever you continually think about will control you activity.
So, let’s say, if life has dealt you an unexpected situation, what you need to do is accept the situation and use it to your advantage. In other words, you situation is design only to show you how strong you could be if you just accept what it is, is what it is and cheap away towards your process of moving forward..
Do not let the situation be your down fall for life. Not accepting it will create of un healthiness.

ACCEPTING THE SITUTION
If life has dealt you an unexpected situation, you should accept it and use it to your advantage. Do not let the situation be your down fall for life. First you need to realize a few things: Your situation may be small compare to others. Everyone has some kind of situation in their life. Everybody is busy with their own life. So you too need to come to the conclusion that no one is coming.
However, you have the ability inside of you that can enable you to achieve anything you want or need; all you have to do is use that ability. For years I neglected to do so. I was ignorant in my thinking. The truth is everything begins with a thought, and the desire of wanting to do something brings that thought into play. Through that desire, action takes over and makes that thought come into reality.
However, in the end, the only thing that counts is action because it’s what makes everything a reality. You can’t achieve anything without any action in your life.
You need to know that achievement is the result of your own capability.
If you want to figure out and dissolve any situation, you must act accordingly. However, if you do nothing and wait for someone to help you, chances are they will not come, as in my case.
Reality says that there are positives and negatives in all situations. Disappointments, setbacks, losses, and even winnings are all part of life.
